Beverly Ann Telfer

April 30, 1931 - March 15, 2022

Beverly Ann Telfer went to be with the Lord on March 15, 2022. A service in her remembrance will be held on a date to be announced. A native of Ohio, Mrs. Telfer was born to Gwendolyn Stultz Brown and Dr. Donald Brown in West Union, Ohio, on April 30, 1931. Beverly is survived by her husband, James, of more than 50 years; daughter, Ann Alexander; grandson, Alex Gordon; granddaughter, Jennie Hennenhoefer. Beverly graduated from Denison University in Granville, Ohio, where she earned a membership in Phi Beta Kappa. After college, Beverly spent some time on the West Coast before returning to Springfield, Ohio, as assistant to the Dean of Wittenberg University. At the university, she met and married James Telfer. Beverly served as Director of Volunteer Services in Columbus, Ohio, for the first retirement community in the country. Health issues resulted in Beverly moving to Columbia, SC, where she was selected to be Director of the Volunteer Department for Lexington Medical Center. The department experienced significant growth during her tenure. She retired in 1996. Beverly was active in St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, including the Wednesday morning Bible Study, a woman’s circle, and the Sunday evening neighborhood community group. She also was an avid reader. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 6952 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29212, or to Carroll Campbell Place, 802 Old Cherokee Road, Lexington, SC 29072, where she spent the last years of her life. The family wishes to thank the staff at Carroll Campbell for the excellent care provided Beverly during her stay and particularly the Dogwood Trail crew responsible for Beverly’s care and the many ways the Dogwood crew contributed to Beverly’s well-being.
