A celebration of life service for Janice W. Martens, best known as “Nanny” by all who knew her, will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Temples Halloran Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. C. Clark McCrary, III will officiate. The visitation will begin for family and friends at 2:00 p.m. Nanny was born on October 27, 1937, in Sharon, Wisconsin, and was adored by her parents Harvey and Minnie Weddig. She went to her heavenly home on January 6, 2022. If you asked Nanny what her greatest accomplishment in life was, she would say her family. She would also tell you that though life isn’t always easy, you make the best of what you are dealt and you do it with joy and thankfulness. We believe she lived that in the best way. Nanny was truly larger than life and lived each day to its fullest. She had an incredible knack for making the people she would come across feel special and while she had her children and grandchildren, she thought of everyone in her life as a family. Her home was always open to all and if you came to see her, she was sure to make sure you were fed and happy leaving. She insisted everyone call her Nanny and once she met you, you were her friend whether you wanted to be or not. Her energy was infectious and her joy was palpable, she was a force and everyone wanted to be around her. Family was everything to Nanny and she was everything to us. She was our safe haven. No matter where she lived, there was always a black cherry candle burning and a pot of potpourri cooking on the stove. She would be sitting and ready at her kitchen table or in her living room to hear all about what was going on in our life and her advice always brought a laugh followed by a smart remark. She loved to trick us all into seeing who gave the best back rubs and all of us believed we were the best so she really got her fill. She gave the best hugs and her kisses healed many bumps and bruises. Her nanny-isms will forever fill our vocabulary and her love and spirit will forever fill our hearts. Though she will be terribly missed, there’s no doubt that she is still watching over us all, our special guardian angel.
