Dr. Raymond Dzoba, 84, of Chapin passed away on April 4, 2018. Born on May 22, 1933, Ray was the son of Mary Makevich Dzoba and Ivan (John) Dzoba. Dr. Dzoba attended Bowling Green State University and NYU before completing his Dentistry degree at the University of Maryland. As a Dentist, Raymond specialized in crown and bridge for 32 years at his private practice in Cedar Knolls, New Jersey. Dr. Dzoba opened his first dentistry location in 1963 in a rented store front and then built his own building in 1965. Raymond was an avid golfer, accomplished bowler (with a perfect game), upland hunter, skilled fisherman, and LBI’s premier flounder fisherman. Raymond was a long-time Rotarian where he served as President for multiple terms. Additionally, Ray was a Paul Harris Fellow award recipient for his tireless support of the Rotary Foundation and its initiatives. In addition to his Rotarian services and recognitions, Raymond was also known as the “chief meatball chef” at the Whippany Rotary Annual Spaghetti dinner. Raymond and his wife spent their adult years in Morristown, New Jersey and Long Beach Island, New Jersey before retiring to Chapin, South Carolina in 1995. While retired, Raymond was very active in Project Love where he shared his wood working skills as a volunteer to help elementary school students learn the art of making bird houses. Raymond is survived by his spouse, Shirley Dzoba; sister, Celine Mattie; sons, Rodger and his family: Debbie, Christopher, and Nicholas; Jeff and his family: Julie, Ashley, and Brandon; Rob and his family: Carolyn, Lauren, and Katie, and the family’s S.C. “adopted son”, Bethea Vincent. A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, S.C. 29212. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum chapel of Bush River Memorial Gardens.
