July 23, 1957 - October 26, 2020
Wahseeola Bernadette Seams affectionately known as "Sugar" was born to parents Josephine and Karl Seams in Harlem Hospital on July 23, 1957. As a child, Washi loved the Sunday outings at The Apollo. She graduated from Mother Butler High School and attended Bronx Community College where she graduated with her Associate's Degree. She continued to further her education and earned her bachelor's degree in accounting with a 4.0 average and honors Summa Cum Laude. Wahseeola lived the most part of her adult life in the Bronx, where she met her companion of 38 years Joseph "Joe" Rodriguez. Together they raised their 2 sons Derrick and Darryl as well as Wahsi's daughter Kirsten from a previous relationship. Anyone that knew Wahsi, knew she was competitive in sports, she loved bowling, roller skating, and paddle ball. She was always smiling, and quite the prankster. She was and will always be loved and looked up to by all, especially her baby sister, Karla. In 2013, the family relocated to Columbia, South Carolina where she continued to guide and direct her children and raise her first born grandson Ear. Although she became ill, she never lost her fun-loving spirit. She battled her illness silently, so as not to be a burden to anyone and on October 26, 2020 succumbed to a heart attack. Wahsi was an amazing Daughter, Sister, Mother, Companion and Friend. She leaves behind to mourn her only daughter, Kirsten, her 2 sons, Derrick and Darryl, her mother, Josephine, Sister, Karla, companion, Joe, as well as 7 grandchildren and hose of friends and acquaintances. We Will Miss You Wahsi "Sugar" Forever in our hearts... Submitted in sorrow by the Seams, Vegas, and, Rodriguez family. Poem Wahseeola The Angels gathered near your side, so very close to you. For they knew the pain and suffering that you were going through. We thought about so many things, as we held on to your hand. Oh, how we prayed that you were strong and happy once again. But your eyes were looking homeward, to that place beyond the sky. When Jesus held his outstretched arms, it was time to say goodbye. We struggled with the selfish thought of wanting you to stay. So we could walk and talk again, like we did yesterday. Within we knew the answer but didn’t want you to know. So I gave to you life’s greatest gift, The gift of letting go.
