Carol Dawn Young, 71, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Prisma Health Baptist Parkridge Hospital.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Temples-Halloran Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private at Bush River Memorial Gardens.
Carol was born on December 19, 1954, in Clarksville, Tennessee, to Joe Eddie Young and Carol O. Eady. She grew up in Tennessee and was forever proud of her Tennessean heritage and roots.
She attended Spartanburg Methodist College and went on to serve as the manager of Arab Termite and Pest Control for over 30 years. During her time there, Carol formed lasting relationships with her customers, many of whom she knew on a first-name basis. She took great pride in her work and was known for her dedication, reliability, and genuine care for others.
Carol was a competitive swimmer and swam semi-professionally; she turned that passion into becoming a swim coach, sharing her knowledge of the sport by coaching several local swim teams. She was also a talented gardener who found joy in being outdoors, tending to her beautiful flowers and plants.
She had a special place in her heart for dogs and loved many of her own. Carol was especially devoted to Shih Tzu rescue efforts, fostering dogs and volunteering her time to help animals in need.
Most importantly, Carol lived a life marked by tragedy and perseverance. Through every hardship, she remained dedicated in her faith and personal relationship with Jesus Christ. She loved deeply, possessed a heart full of empathy, and was known for her thoughtfulness and sentimentality. Carol will be remembered for her wisdom, always having an answer when her children needed guidance, and for the unwavering love she showed her family. Her proudest achievement was the love she shared with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her brother, David Eady; her brother, Ricky Young; her sister, Bambi Jo Flynt; and her nephew, Ryan Flynt.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Brandon Lee Poyner Jr. and his wife Michele Poyner; her daughter, Heather P. Shuler and her husband Paul L. Shuler, Jr.; her four grandchildren, Leyton Shuler, Lee Poyner, Eva Blair Shuler, and Christian Poyner; and her nephew, Jason Flynt.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Prisma Health Baptist Parkridge ICU and Fourth Floor Nursing Staff, as well as Lexington Regional Rehabilitation Hospital, for their compassion and care during this time.
Memorial contributions may be made in Carol’s honor to Pawmetto Lifeline, 1275 Bower Parkway, Columbia, SC 29212.
