Dorothy M. "Mama" Prescott

CHAPIN—Funeral services for Dorothy M. "MaMa" Prescott, 96, of Chapin will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016 at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 215 St. Thomas Church Road, Chapin, SC 29036, The Reverend Larry Hagerty will be officiating.Burial will follow in St. Thomas Lutheran Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Will Martin, Justin Price, Cory Englert and Blair Martin. Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. The family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2016 at Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. Dorothy passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016.Born in Ironton, Minnesota she was the daughter of the late Cecil Mettee, Grace Mettee Eyster and step-father, Jack Eyster.She was a Chapin resident since 1978, formerly of West Columbia and grew-up in Youngstown, Ohio. Dorothy was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church since 1991.She volunteered at Lowman Home Nursing Center for over ten years and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.She was an avid baseball fan and volunteered at the Columbia Bombers, Capital City Blowfish and Lexington Blowfish for over 25 years.Dorothy met Edwards in New Jersey, during WWII while working on air planes, as a “Rosie the Riveter”.He was a Staff Sgt. in the Army Air Corp. Surviving are her daughter, Cecelia "Ciel" P. Englert (Vic); sons, Charles Edwards “Chuck” Prescott, Jr., (Crystal) and James Daniel Prescott all of Chapin; 5 grandchildren, (Sandy Martin, Brandy Price, Cory Englert, Kevin Prescott and Ashley Prescott) and 5 great-grandchildren, (Courtney & Will Martin, Ellison, Elin and Emery Price & Audrianna Martini).She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwards “Eddie” C. Prescott and 2 brothers, Robert Woods and Calvin Mettee. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 215 St. Thomas Church Road, Chapin, SC 29036.
