Edsel Lee Jones, 77, of Columbia, passed away peacefully Friday, November 14, 2025. Born in Orient Hill, WV, he was the son of the late Ocie Jones and Vertie Hizer Jones. A man of great wit, he was the king of dad jokes prior to dad jokes becoming a popular trend. His sense of humor was unique to his personality. Mr. Jones was a family man. He took great joy in spending quality time with his family on many camping trips. As an avid Gamecock fan, he spent many Fall Saturdays with his daughter, Heather, at Williams Brice Stadium, and women's basketball at Colonial Life Arena supporting the Gamecocks.
He may have been a college football fan, but he was obsessed with Starbucks. His go to order was the Mocha Cookie Crumble, but around the holidays at Christmas, it was the Peppermint Mocha. A simple Starbucks gift card was all that he really wanted.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara Jones; daughters, Heather Jones and Cherilyn Word (David); grandchild, Meghan Word; niece, Angelina Campbell (Rickey); and great-nephew, Brylon Campbell.
He was pre-deceased by his sister, Brenda Carr.
The family will have a gathering of family and friends held at a later day and time to celebrate his life.
