Eric J. Stamey

Eric Stamey passed away at MUSC in Charleston, with his wife and mother by his side.

Visitation will be held at 2pm, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 3pm on July 22, 2025 at Temples-Halloran Funeral Home Chapel, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, South Carolina, 29212.

A native of Greenville, SC, Eric was born Sept 20, 1972 to Martha and Larry Stamey.

Eric was a kind, gentle and loving man that would do anything to help his family and friends. A dedicated teacher for most of his career, he loved his students, friends and family and encouraged and believed in them both in and out of the classroom. If they asked him to attend an event, he would try his best to be there. He always put others before himself and had the biggest heart.

Eric loved music. A drummer since childhood, music was both a comfort and release for him. He was always tapping his fingers and hands with some beat that he was thinking of. He loved to read when time permitted and collected quite the library over the years.

He is pre-deceased by his older brother Larry Scott Stamey. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 27 years Tonya Wine Stamey, son James Edward Stamey, his parents Martha Earle Stamey, father, Larry Monroe Stamey, his sister Andrea Toler-Wade (Dallas), his brother Jeremiah Stamey (Gamble), many nieces, their children and a nephew.
