Garnett Yost Baker,70, stepped into her joy on May 8, 2025, after a hard-fought health battle. She was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Kenneth and Lillian Yost, as well as her infant son, Christopher Baker.
Garnett was raised in North Augusta, South Carolina. Her childhood home was in Hammond Hills, and she often spoke fondly of the wonderful memories she made there.
She was an accomplished equestrian, model, singer, and a devoted lover of all animals. After graduating early from North Augusta High School, she attended USC Aiken, where she met Robert L. Baker. The two married in 1972 and were blessed with two children, Johnny and Michelle Baker.
Garnett was, first and foremost, a devoted mother. Johnny and Michelle both deeply cherish the time they had with her. She was also a proud grandmother to Bryanna and Alika, whom she loved dearly and joyfully pointed toward Jesus at every opportunity. Garnett was thrilled to know and love her great-grandchildren, Ayla and Lakelyn.
A faithful member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, Garnett sang in the choir and served as a volunteer. She was committed to raising her children in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and frequently quoted the verse, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved—you and your household.” She lived this belief and faithfully prayed for her family.
Garnett had many friends from all walks of life. Whether carting Johnny to the ball fields, taking Michelle to dance, serving in her church, or working at BellSouth, she was deeply loved and remembered fondly by those who knew her. She was also cherished by her brother- and sister-in-law, Benny and Katheryn Baker, and their children, Sarah, Hannah, and Benjamin.
The family wishes to thank everyone who prayed faithfully for Garnett during her illness, and they extend their heartfelt gratitude to the medical teams who cared for her with such compassion. Praise Jesus for the hope of eternal salvation through faith in Christ’s sacrifice—a hope in which Garnett was a fierce believer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, with burial to follow at Bush River Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
