Harold Brooks Bickley,

CHAPIN—Harold Brooks Bickley, Sr., 81, was welcomed into the kingdom of Heaven on Thursday, February 16, 2017. He was born in Columbia, SC on July 11, 1935 and was the son of the late Charlie Brooks Bickley and Masey Frick Bickley. On July 11, 1953, his 18th birthday, he married the girl of his dreams, Carrie Mae Shealy.For the past 63 years, he spent his life by her side devoted to her and their marriage. Harold was well loved and was known for his kind spirit and big heart.He loved nothing more than family and cherished the time he spent with them.He never met a stranger and would spend hours telling stories about his childhood, family, and life.He was a man of deep faith and served the Lord through his long time membership at St. Thomas Lutheran Church. A graduate of Chapin High School, Harold enjoyed sports and was an avid football and baseball player.After school he went on to pursue a 36-year career with SCANA.Other interests included serving on the Lexington/Richland School District 5 school board, the Sertoma and Ruritan clubs. His favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting, Gamecock sports and traveling with his wife and grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Carrie Mae Shealy Bickley; daughter Karen S. Bickley (Jay Otterbacher) of Blythewood, SC; son, Harold B. Bickley, Jr. (Kay) of Chapin, SC; grandchildren, Kelli Dowling (Eddie), Cliff Bickley (Brittany), and Andrea Snelgrove (Mitchell); and his beloved great-grandchildren, Abby and Emma Dowling.His brothers, Bobby and Heyward Bickley, and his long-time partner in crime, Jack Russell Terrier, Bingo, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 20, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 215 St. Thomas Church Road, Chapin, SC 29036 with the Reverend Larry Hagerty officiating.Burial will follow in the church cemetery.The family will greet friends in the fellowship hall following the committal services.Temples Halloran Funeral Home is caring for the Bickley family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Heritage at Lowman, P.O. Box 444, White Rock, SC29177.
