Pelion – Homer Emmitt Settle, 78, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Temples-Halloran Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Dr. Jeff Wright. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Homer was born on March 28, 1947, in Kincaid, West Virginia, the son of the late Roy and Alice V. Settle. A proud veteran, he honorably served in both the United States Navy and the United States Army. His patriotic spirit continued throughout his life as he enjoyed volunteering with Wreaths Across America.
He was a faithful member of Red Bank Baptist Church, where he sang in the Celebration Choir. Homer loved the outdoors—fishing, hunting, and tending to his rose garden. He especially enjoyed time on his back porch with a good cup of coffee, visiting with friends, watching hummingbirds, or just talking about good times with Frances. It was also his favorite place to commune with God while reflecting on his favorite verse, Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God.”
For 54 years, Homer worked in the trucking industry, he was self employed and worked as a delivery driver with W.P. Rawl in Pelion. Seventeen of those years were especially meaningful as he and his wife, Frances, partnered together to deliver to all 48 states.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 58 years, Frances Settle; three sons, Ronald Settle (Charlene), Gary Settle (Sandy), and Brian Settle (Nicki); seven grandchildren, Christopher, James, Jerry Lee, Dylan, Bradley, Eric, and Claire; three great-grandchildren, Logan, Ethan, and Atticus; his brother, Steve Settle (Glenna); and sister-in-law, Barbara (Randy).
Temples-Halloran Funeral Home proudly serves the Settle family in their time of grief.
