India Sorrell Harrison was born on April 22, 1985, in Columbia, South Carolina to Alfred Harrison, Jr and Audrey Harrison. She graduated from Irmo High School and then went on to attend the University of South Carolina Upstate where she studied biology. While in college she met the father of her children, Shamar Taylor, and gave birth to her first born child, Leilani. After Leilani was born India transferred to South University to study computer technology.
India had a creative vision in everything she did, especially when it came to decorating for the house or planning celebrations. She found joy in helping others, spending time with family, and simply laughing with her dad. Being a mother was India’s most cherished accomplishment. Her children meant everything to her. She devoted herself to loving them and providing a life of happiness for them. She loved to create delicious meals and desserts just to see them smile.
India was a passionate daughter, sister, mother, friend and advisor. She was building her relationship with Jesus Christ and strongly believed in the Word of God. She made sure to also teach her children to follow the teachings of the Bible.
India found comfort and peace in the words of the serenity prayer. She said it often to her children in hopes that it will help to guide them as they grow and navigate through life.
India is survived by three beautiful children, Leilani, Nasir, Imani; her parents, Alfred and Audrey Harrison; her sisters Rashida Bridges (Jaquia) and Tunis; Shamar Taylor, Cynthia Taylor and the entire Taylor family, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and close family.
