Funeral services for James “Jim” Coleman, 91, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2026, at Temples-Halloran Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel.
Mr. Jim passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late James Coleman Sr. and Inez Dodson Coleman. He served in the Naval Reserves for seven years. Mr. Coleman was heavily involved in the Jaycees in Anderson, SC, and later the Jamil Temple in Columbia, SC, where he helped raise money for the children’s hospital. He held many positions within both the Jamil Temple and the Keystone Cops Unit. He moved his family in 1970 from Anderson to Columbia, where he opened and managed the first Magnavox home entertainment stores in Dutch Square and Columbia Mall. He enjoyed everything in life, from camping by the beach at Ocean Lakes and taking part in the golf cart parades, to spending time on Lake Murray aboard his boat, The Lady Sea, named for his wife, Ginny. He especially loved teaching his family and friends to water ski and his involvement in the Ski Bugs Club. His family was very important to him. Every Sunday, it was a tradition to have a meal after church with his family for an extended lunch gathering, talking, laughing, and sharing stories. Those moments and blessings were cherished and became some of his fondest memories.
Mr. Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 70 years, Virginia “Ginny” Coleman; sons, Mike Coleman (Janet), Chris Coleman (Sharon), and Paul Coleman (Connie; children, Trent {Jess; child, Rory} and Collen); grandchildren, Amanda Smith (Michael), Natalie Brown, Ryan Coleman, Deanna Coleman, and Blair Coleman; great-grandchildren, Hannah Smith, Emma Smith, and Isabella Brown; and sisters, Mary Ann Hawkins, Martha Fowler, and Linda Smith.
