Columbia, South Carolina – Jeffery Smith, 64, passed away quietly with his father by his side at Lexington Medical Center.
A Graveside Service will be held 2:00 pm on Thursday December 4, 2025 at Bush River Memorial Gardens.
A native of Anne Arbor, MI, Jeff was born on August 4, 1961 to Ernest William John “Bill” Smith and Violet “Vi” Louise Smith.
Jeff was stubborn and passionate, loyal, a diligent friend, extremely intelligent, and would often start a conversation or argument with a complete stranger. He will be remembered most for how he cared for his mother and father in the years leading up to his passing.
At the age of 18, he enrolled as a member of the National Guard and served his country for 10 years. Although he didn’t complete a conventional high school diploma, he returned to get his GED and enrolled in college. Above all else, Jeff absolutely loved to read. Even in his final days, Jeff had his dad check books out to read. Jeff was also an amazing cook. He made so many amazing meals for his friends and his parents. He loved hunting and being a great companion to his dog Frank.
Jeff would often have such a goofy and playful way of interacting with the world around him. He was also deeply connected with his parents.
In addition to his mother, he is predeceased by his youngest brother Stephen Edward Smith.
Those left to remember his life and keep his memory, include his father Bill, his brother Brian, his niece Megan, cousins Kim, Ken, Kathy, Shaun, Kathleen, Rick, Jerry, Lanora, and Karen.
He left behind his much loved dog Frank. He will also be remembered by Raven Smith, Jacob Taylor-Smith, Ashley Dales, Donald Dales, the Thayer family, and the Mungo family.
