COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Jerry George Alert, 82, of Columbia will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212 with burial to follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens.Chaplain Dan Rummel will be officiating.The family will greet friends from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Alert, beloved husband of Nancy C. Alert, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016.Born in Cleveland, OH, he was the son of the late Jerry John Alert and Rose Anna Mlazovsky Alert.He was a graduate of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH with a Chemical Engineering Degree.After graduation Jerry went to work for Formica Corporation for 25 years.He later went to DHEC were he was an Environmental Engineer and retired after 10 years of employment.He also was a member of the Military History Club.Jerry was a loving father, grandfather and husband. Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Nancy Catterton Alert of Columbia; daughters, Holly Cooper (Danny) and Nancy Link (Ed); sons, Jason Alert (Genevieve), Tom Alert (Amber Langley); step-son, David Beitz (Tiffany); grandchildren, Hannah and Noah Cooper; Becky Duffy (Tom), Amanda Heinl (Nick),and Mitch Link; Beckett and River Rose Alert, Zachary and Nicholas Beitz; great-granddaughter, Eliza Heinl. Jerry was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Alert.
