Joseph, known affectionately as “Vego” and “The Hedonist” among the pirate crew of The Pandemonium in the Chaos Armada of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), brought joy and laughter to every gathering he touched. He was employed at The Home Depot in Harbison, where he earned numerous awards for his dedication and exemplary service.

Born on February 7, 1987, in Wilmington, NC, Joseph was the beloved son of Cheryl Hancock and Walter Henegar.

Vego was a truly special soul. His humor and kindness knew no bounds, extending to anyone in need. Even during SCA events—his holidays aboard the Pandemonium—Joe would often slip away to help a lost or distressed stranger, only to return just as his absence was being noticed. Whether the task was great or small, Joe met it with unwavering generosity and grace.

The Pandemonium, a pirate-themed group within the SCA, is known for bringing merriment to every event they attended. With Vego at the helm of many of their adventures, the group hosted spirited gatherings that often concluded with creative games like “Wheel of Misfortune” or Joe’s own madcap invention. As a fictional “Plague Doctor,” he playfully treated attendees’ imaginary ailments, offering joy, laughter, and an unforgettable experience.

Joe was not a man of two sides—he was more like a many-sided die, full of varied and vibrant interests. He loved Dungeons & Dragons, explored cryptocurrency, dabbled in homesteading, and had even begun writing a book. A passionate cook, he often prepared meals with his beloved fiancée, Emily Hall, creating feasts fit for kings and queens. Whether embarking on a new adventure or crafting one of his own, Joe always made room for others to join him.

He was known for his aversion to conflict, his strength of character, and his extraordinary empathy. Joe made it his mission to ensure that those around him felt seen, heard, and happy. He was the friend who felt guilty if he couldn’t lend a hand—the kind of person you could count on, and the kind that the world doesn’t see often enough.

Joseph leaves behind his mother, Cheryl Hancock; his father, Walter Henegar; his brother, Samuel Henegar; and his fiancée, Emily Hall—the treasure of his life—with whom he raised a beloved family of furry companions. He also leaves a wide circle of friends, chosen family, and loved ones who will miss him deeply and remember him always.
