IRMO—Funeral services for “Captain” Lawson E. Lever, 87, of Irmo will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2017 at Shady Grove United Methodist Church, 1918 Shady Grove Road, Irmo, SC 29063.The Reverend Robert M. “Bob” Vincent will be officiating.Burial will follow in the church cemetery.The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. “Captain” Lever beloved husband of Ruth Sands Lever, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2017.He was born in Irmo, SC and was the son of the late Royal Eugene Lever and Eva Folk Lever. “Captain”Lever grew-up on the family farm and later moved to Lake Murray. He was a lifelong member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church, he served in US Army during the Korean War.Gene Lever was a member of theBoylston Masonic Lodge and the Lake Murray Power Squadron. He was know to people in the community as “Captain” Lever.Gene and Ruth were owners and operators of The Whale’s Tail Restaurant for 47 years.He loved fishing on Lake Murray andSantee, but he especially loved deep sea fishing. Surviving in addition to his wife of 68 years, Ruth Sands Lever of Irmo; brother, Richard A. Lever (Dorothy) of Irmo; niece,Elizabeth Bollinger; great nephew and niece, Michael & Kayla.
