Marjorie "Margie" Elizabeth MeGahee Durant, 98, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, at Virginia Wingard United Methodist Church, with a repast and visitation to follow. Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Bush River Memorial Gardens.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida, on February 8, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Walter Clyde MeGahee and Mittie Ruth Wood.
A devoted Christian, Margie was a faithful member of Virginia Wingard United Methodist Church and also attended Ashland United Methodist Church. Her life was marked by service, love, and quiet acts of kindness. For many years, she volunteered on the pediatric wing of Richland Memorial Hospital, sewing bonnets for newborn babies. Margie will be remembered for her kind and caring spirit and the way she loved her husband and son. She also enjoyed gardening and cooking.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Alton Lee Durant, and her son, Alton David Durant. She is survived by her sister, Ruth MeGahee Bowles; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews; her goddaughter, Susan Winstead; and special friend, Andy Shull.
