Martha Ann Rooney

IRMO—Martha Ann Rooney, 75, of Irmo, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2016.Born in Girard, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Umphenour and Eleanor Land Umphenour. She was an area resident since 1998 formerly of Fishkill, NY. 1st Lt. Martha A. Rooney was a proud Veteran of the United States Army Corp of Nurses, where she served for over 3 years and spent 2 years in active duty.After her honorable discharged she continued to work as a Wound Care Nurse at the Veteran hospital for over 26 years. Martha spent her free time enjoying sewing and gardening.She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister who will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Memorial service will be held at a later date.Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Rd., Columbia, SC 29212 is assisting the family. Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Martin Patrick Rooney of Irmo; sons, Joseph Rooney (Sherry) of Columbia, SC and Brendan Rooney (Mercedes) of New Paltz, NY; sisters, Jo Helen Umphenour (Carolyn); and Constance Duncan (Douglas) of Joplin, MO; brother, Phillip Umphenour (Judy) of Joplin, MO; five grandchildren.
