Mary Louise Taylor was born on April 1,1936 in Long Branch, NJ and passed away on August 21, 2025, in Greenville, SC, she was 89 years old.
Mary Lou’s family included father Frederick Neu, her mother and namesake Mary Louise Neu and her brother Frederick Conrad Neu. She graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit, MI, Michigan State University with a BA in Early Education and the University of Michigan – Flint with a Master of Social Work. She married Arnold Gene Taylor and had two sons; Eric Jon Taylor and Joel Ross Taylor. She retired from the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia, SC and earned the Employee of the Year honors in 1997. Mary Lou was a committed follower of Jesus, and her many passions included being a grandmother of 7, a great grandmother of 10, an annual needlepoint contributor at the South Carolina State Fair and an avid South Carolina Gamecock fan. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and worshiped at Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church in Irmo, SC. She was a winning contestant on the game show Concentration in the 1950’s, enjoyed playing the piano and loved her moonflowers, her butterfly bush, watching birds and walking on the beach.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, brother and husband, and is survived by her two sons and their families: Eric’s family; wife Julie, son Ian, daughter Alyssa and her husband Alex and daughter Sophie, daughter Julia and her husband John and their children Avery and Robin. Joel’s family; wife Peggy, son Justin and his wife Peyton and their children Ryder, Presley and Kason, son Sam, daughter Madi and her husband Josh and their children Addie, Asher and Griffin and daughter Emily and her son Danny.
Mary will be buried with her husband at Fort Jackson National Cemetery on Thursday August 28 at 10am.
