Mary York

Mary Elizabeth Schulken York (89) passed away September 14, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Samuel B., and Mable J. Schulken.

"Mary Beth" was born March 14, 1936, in the mountain community of Glade Valley, North Carolina, living there until moving to Charlotte with her parents as a child. She graduated from Tech High School and business school. After her schooling, she started her career with Humble Oil as a secretary. Her final position as secretary for the personnel manager; one of her last duties was assisting in hiring Fred York as a sales engineer. They married December 20, 1963.

Their first assignment was in Asheville, NC, where their two sons were born; Fred Daniel in 1967 and James Samuel (Jenna) in 1969. They moving to Columbia in 1969 where Mary Beth, a loving wife and mother, functioned as a wonderful home manager and example of her faith as a member of the Church of Christ.

Mary Beth's funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Temples-Halloran Funeral Home located at 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, at 1:00 p.m., burial will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens
