Mitchell Rozonkiewiecz Jr., age 81, of Utica, NY passed away on Friday, August 08, 2025. Mitch was the son of the late Mitchell and Margaret (Waugh) Rozonkiewiecz. Mitch was predeceased by his brother Michael Rozonkiewiecz and his sister Katherine Mastrangelo. Surviving Mitch are his wife of 62 years Doris (Stasik), son and daughter-in-law Mitchell and Patti (Herrick) Rozonkiewiecz, son and daughter-in-law Frank and Stacy (Kowalski) Rozonkiewiecz, daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Michael Young. Grandchildren Michael and Hannah (Snyder) Young, Shelby Young, Shawn Hollenback, and Sean and Amberly (Womble) Rozonkiewiecz, and their sons Waylen and Grayson Rozonkiewiecz.

Mitch entered the Navy at 18 years of age and served our country proudly for the next four years aboard the diesel submarine USS Tench as a Sonar Engineer. Upon leaving the Navy, Mitch worked for UNIVAC, where he began his career in IT in 1966. He then spent more than five decades working in various IT roles at Touchette Corporation, Syracuse China, Canadian Pacific, Community General Hospital, and Syracuse Rescue Mission. Mitch was very well respected in the IT community and taught classes at Syracuse University in his “spare time” after his 50-hour work weeks.

On Mitch’s 75th birthday he retired, and Mitch and Doris then moved to South Carolina where they began their final chapter together. Mitch became a member of the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic church and dedicated the final years of his life to helping the church and parishioners. Mitch and Doris would attend the 8 am Mass on Sunday, and then they would bring communion to several parishioners that were homebound. Mitch always said how lucky he was to have such great spiritual advisors at the parish.

In Mitch’s last conversation with Doris, he told her, “We had such a blessed life together”.

Mitch passed away peacefully with his family by his side. Visitation will be held at 9:00 am Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church with a Funeral Mass will begin immediately after at 10:00 am.
