Nancy Louisa Deaton Winfree, 86, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025.
Nancy was born on July 14, 1938, in Mooresville, North Carolina, the daughter of Avis and Willis Deaton. As a child, Nancy’s mother taught her the power of prayer, and they were faithful members of Mt. Zion Methodist Church. In 1954, Nancy accepted Christ as her Savior at a Youth for Christ Rally and gave thanks to God for guiding her throughout her life. She walked hand in hand with her Lord and Savior through all of life’s trials, trusting that He would provide her with strength.
After moving to Columbia, Nancy became an active member of First Baptist Church of Columbia, where she sang in the choir and participated in the Bible Survey Class. Nancy retired from teaching after 39 years, most recently serving as a math teacher in the Lexington/Richland District 5 schools.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John H. Winfree; a grandson, Chandler Brown; and her brother, Willis Robert Deaton, Sr.
Those left to cherish her memory include her three children: Louisa Dawn Brown (David), John H. Winfree III (Sue), and Bryan Alexander Winfree (Kelly); and five grandchildren: Shadoe Carson Payne Brown, Trista Lynn Winfree, Alex Winfree, Aaron Winfree, and Christian Winfree.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Temples-Halloran Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.
