Peggy Ann Bornman Kaufmann (Peggy/Memaw) passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. A memorial service for Peggy (88), will be held at 3:00pm on Monday, January 19th at The Episcopal Church of St. Simon and St. Jude in Irmo, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Episcopal Church of St. Simon and St. Jude (SSSJ).
Peggy was born in Clarksdale, MS, February 26, 1937, the daughter of Edgar Fitzclarence Bornman and Mary Virginia Conner Bornman. She began taking piano lessons when she was in primary school and continued her study throughout high school, where she also learned to play the organ. She loved music in all forms and sang in school and church choirs.
Peggy earned her bachelor's degree in Music Education with Voice as her primary instrument, at Southwestern at Memphis (which later became Rhodes College) in 1959. While in college, she met her future husband Anders Kaufmann and they were married in 1958.
Following graduation, Peggy taught music in public and private schools as well as in her private studio for 5 decades. She also played the organ and directed the choir in several churches. She was active in Music Teachers associations at the local, state and national levels and one of the first private music teachers to include the use of technology into her private studio music theory program. In her retirement, she continued to be involved in church music and music education in her community.
Peggy is survived by her daughter Kirsten Mosher and husband Steve, daughter Jennifer Strudwick, daughter-in-law Melissa Silvers, sister Virginia Burrell, and sister Mary Edgar Anderson. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, one great grand son, many nieces and nephews, and an assortment of “adopted” friends, children and grandchildren who called her Memaw.
She was preceded in death by her husband Anders, her son Anders Kaufmann, Jr. and son-in-law Arthur Strudwick.
