COLUMBIA—Funeral service for Ray Eugene “Gene” Stancil, 70, of Columbia, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 27, 2015 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 6952 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29212. The Reverend Dale B. Welden and Mr. Adam Williams will officiate. The family will greet friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service.Temples Halloran Funeral Home is assisting the family. Mr. Stancil went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 23, 2015.Born in Kannapolis, NC, he was the son of the late Lorene Winecoff Stancil.He graduated from A.L. Brown High School and attended Central Piedmont College, Charlotte, NC.He worked most of his professional life as Branch Manager of Allison-Erwin Co. in Columbia for 25 years.Prior to his retirement he was owner and operator of AllBrite, Inc.Mr. Stancil is a charter member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church where he served as a ruling elder.He adored worship and music being an active member of the choir.He is a member of the SC High School Football Officials Association and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999.His love of football as an official for the Southern Conference for 30 years, gained recognition receiving the Silver Whistle Award.He was also active in the Jaycees in his earlier years and Shriners Parade Motor Escorts. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He leaves his wife, Emma “Emmie” Schlagenhauf Stancil of 48 years; son, Ray E. “Gene” Stancil, Jr. (Alison) and daughter, Amber Elizabeth Szymanski; four granddaughters, Taylor, Ryan, Ainsley and Peyton; sisters, Sheila Bittle (Lloyd) and sister-in-law, Dr. Millie S. Goodson (Paul); along with several nephews, nieces, cousins and aunts.He was predeceased by his mother, Lorene Stancil and grandson, Tyler Szymanski. With special recognition to his care givers for so many years, we thank Dr. Steve Madden, Bulow Biotech prosthetics, the Sigurd Center and USC Medical research team for Stroke Victims. He was a humble God Fearing man who enjoyed the simple things of life and though an amputee, he never considered himself disable.May he rest in peace in the arms of his loving Savior.
