Chapin—A graveside service for Raymond J. Long, Sr., 93 of Chapin will be held at 2:00 Sunday, November 1, 2020, in Bush River Memorial Gardens, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212.The Reverend Michael Hull will officiate. Raymond was born in Hampton County on February 24, 1927, to the late Raymond J. Long and Maggie Padgett Long.He passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2020.Raymond worked for the State Newspaper for 38 years.He was a Veteran of the United States Navy. Raymond enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved working in his garden and doing projects around the home.He was known as a great cook, he coached little league baseball and softball. Survivors include his loving wife, Janene Lawrence Long, married over 70 years; sons, Raymond J. Long, Jr. (Carla) and Perry A. Long (Sherry); 4 grandchildren, Brad German, Ray J. Long III, Blaine Long, and Carlyn Thompson; 6 great-grandchildren, Dana Long, Breanna Thompson, Jazmyn Thompson, Dylan Long, Caleb Long, and Haden Long.Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, 3 brothers, and a great-granddaughter, Sara Addison Long.
