Robert “Bob” Clay Woods, 89, passed away on January 25, 2026.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. The family will receive friends and loved ones one hour prior to the service in the mausoleum chapel.
Bob was born on October 18, 1936, and grew up in Oak Hill, West Virginia. He graduated from Collins High School in 1954 and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from West Virginia Institute of Technology in 1962. In January of that same year, he married the love of his life, Barbara Lee Zandlo, in Oak Hill. They shared a devoted marriage until her passing in December 2006.
Bob proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for nine years. Following his military service, he built a long and distinguished engineering career. He worked for Hercules Powder Company in Radford, Virginia, and FMC Corporation in Charleston, West Virginia, before joining Allied Signal Corporation, where he spent 32 years before retiring in 1999. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in both South Carolina and West Virginia and was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Bob will be remembered as a kind, generous, and warm-hearted man who could make friends wherever he went. He had a lifelong love for dogs, and his most recent companions, Bug and Bear, brought him great joy. He also had an appreciation for luxury cars, like Mercedes and his beloved little white Toyota truck.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert C. Woods and Sarah Woods Harvey; his wife, Barbara Woods; and his sisters, Dorothy Allen, Maxine Blume and an uncle, Gerald Greene. Survivors include his special friends; Daryl Hendrix, Steve Zagorski, Larry Price and Bill Buck.
