Ross S. Owen

COLUMBIA—Ross S. Owen, Jr., 92, of Columbia, died Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.Born in Westminster, SC, he was the son of the late Ross S. Owen, Sr. and Mary Loudora Jones Owen.He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII and was involved in the battle of Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland.He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the Eamet Campaign Metal with 3 bronze service stars.Ross was a long time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.He had retired as a Superintendent in Bridge Construction after 28 years of service. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 28, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church,10000 Broad River Road, Irmo, SC 29063, with The Reverend Dr. Karen K. Young officiating. Burial will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens with military honors.The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212 will be assisting the family. Surviving include wife, Betty Metz Owen; daughter, Susan Miller (Steve); sons, Ross L. “Sonny” Owen (Kathryn) and Dale R. Owen (Kathy); sisters, Mary Alice Wessinger and Janice Wilson (Bobby); brothers, James Owen and Guy Owen (Rennie), seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, with the fifth due May 20, 2015; step-children, Mary E. Bouknight and Dan F. Bouknight; six step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren.Those who preceded Ross in death are his first wife, Violet W. Owen; one sister and three brothers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial may be made to Compassion Hospice, 455 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29210.
