S. Lavern Grainger

LEXINGTON—The funeral service for Mr. S. Lavern Grainger, 82, of Lexington will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 1273 Calks Ferry Road, Lexington, SC 29072. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the interment. Reverend Robert “Bob” L. Helton, Jr. will officiate. Temples Halloran Funeral Home is assisting the family. Mr. Grainger died on Sunday, June 26, 2016.He was born on February 22, 1934 in Conway, SC and was the son of the late Roy Grainger and Ruth Graham Grainger.He retired from the Lance Corporation after 40 years of service and attended St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. Mr. Grainger was an avid hunter and fisher man; he will be greatly missed by the love of his life, Sam, as well as all who knew him. Surviving in addition to his beloved wife of 38 years, Ollie C. “Sam” Cox Grainger; step-daughter, Kelly Lovern (Dr. Mark Lovern) of Columbia; son, Davis Grainger of Columbia, SC; step-sons, Patrick Roper (Scarlett) of Independence, Louisiana and Scott Roper of Lexington, SC; brother, Cecil Grainger of Conway, SC; as well as a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Grainger was preceded in death by a number of siblings. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 1273 Calks Ferry Road, Lexington, SC 29072.
