Susan Wax Wolfe

Susan Wax Wolfe, of Irmo, passed away unexpectedly on June 11, 2025, surrounded by her beloved husband of 41 years, Richard Wolfe, and all five children. A Celebration of Life Service will we held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Dutch Fork Baptist Church, 3517 Dreher Shoals Road, Irmo, South Carolina, 29063. 

She was born at the Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune on January 16, 1954. She was the daughter of USMC Sergeant Major Sam B. and Victoria Wax. As a part of a military family, she grew up in parts of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Germany. 

Susan was a very caring and generous person who enjoyed conversing and being social. She never met a stranger that she did not embrace. She enjoyed decorating for every holiday and taking frequent trips to Riverbanks Zoo. 

She will be remembered mostly for her passion for collecting, scrapbooking, crafting, and her love for all things Disney. Susan will be remembered fondly for being a devoted wife, a mother to all of her children, and for being an amazing caregiver for her son, Sam. 

As a child, she loved to study and always had good grades. Her hard work and dedication paid off, and she graduated early from Sumter High School in 1971. Susan studied Pre-Law at George Washington University and went on to earn her Criminal Justice Degree from the University of South Carolina. As a young adult, she became a teacher. 

Her path then led her to her career with the South Carolina Department of Corrections. She started as a Correctional Officer and was later promoted to Lieutenant. Susan was also an instructor for the Department of Corrections. She also worked as an Administrative Assistant in the construction department of the Department of Corrections. In the early 2000’s, Susan owned and operated a scrapbook memory store in Irmo called SC Keepsakes. She was also a full-time caregiver for her youngest son, Sam. 

Susan was preceded in death by her parents and her oldest sister, Donna Lee Wax Earney. 

Those left to keep her memory include her husband, Richard Wolfe; sons, David Barrett (Ashley), Joseph Barrett (fiancée Faith), and Sam Wolfe; daughters, Victoria Ard and Lily Mishou; stepson, Ricky Wolfe; grandchildren, Gabriel, Savannah, Sabrina, Caroline, Drew, Ethan, Caleb, Paisley, and Bella; brothers, Michael Wax (Judy), Mark Wax (Julia), and Dan Wax (Denise); sister, Cherri McKay (Michael); brother-in-law, Charles “Chuck” Earney; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family's GoFundMe or directly to Miss Lily Mishou c/o Temples-Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, South Carolina, 29212.
