Verna Holden Goodman, 81, of West Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. She was born in Windsor, North Carolina, on May 24, 1942, to Thomas Joseph Holden, Jr., and Doris “Dot” Eley Holden. Verna was raised in Windsor, NC and graduated from Windsor High School in 1960. She earned an associate degree from Longwood College in Virginia. She retired as a vice-president of Headway Staffing in Hampton, Virginia. She retired with her husband to Hilton Head, SC, before moving to Still Hopes in West Columbia in 2021. In her free time, Verna enjoyed playing bridge, ballroom dancing, reading and watching all sports. Her favorite teams were The Atlanta Braves and Clemson Tigers. Verna is survived by her husband, Paul Leslie Goodman; her daughter, Randall Scott Russell (Kelly) and, her son, Thomas Winfield Scott. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Teddy Elizabeth Roberts (Hunter) and Cody Elliott Russell; her great-grandchild, Oaklee Elizabeth Roberts and her brother Thomas Joseph Holden,3rd (Gina). A memorial service will be held at 1 Still Hopes Dr. West Columbia, SC 29169 in the Chapel on Saturday, March 16th at 10:00 am with a reception to follow. The Reverend Douglas Gray will officiate.
