Virginia “Jenny” Tanner Wilson, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025. Born on April 5, 1944, Jenny lived a life defined by service, compassion, and an unwavering devotion to her family, faith, and community.
Jenny was a devoted mother to her son, Eric, and a deeply cherished grandmother to Lincoln and Noah, who brought her immense pride and joy. Her love for her family was steady, generous, and constant, and she took great happiness in supporting and encouraging those she loved.
Jenny retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina after 20 years of dedicated service. In retirement, she continued to give of herself through volunteer work with the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice, where she spent a decade developing and tutoring students in a phonics-based reading program. Her patience, kindness, and belief in each child’s potential left a lasting impact on many young lives.
A long-time member of Christian Life Church, Jenny’s faith was the foundation of her life and guided her actions. She was known as a warm and loving presence—someone who welcomed others easily, offered friendship freely, and consistently saw the best in everyone she met.
She is survived by her son, Eric Wilson, and his wife, Pushpinder; her grandsons, Lincoln and Noah; and her beloved nieces and nephews. Jenny was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mildred Tanner, and her siblings, Barbara, Katherine, and Charles.
A memorial service celebrating Jenny’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Christian Life Church in the Brown Chapel, 2700 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29210. All who knew and loved Jenny are warmly invited to attend.
