Columbia, SC – William George “Bill” Gillam, age 75, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Simon & St. Jude Episcopal Church, 1110 Kinley Road, Irmo, South Carolina, with burial/interment to follow.

Born on July 14, 1950, in Decatur, Georgia, Bill was the son of the late John Arthur Gillam and Mildred Ethel Kennemore Gillam. He was known for his larger-than-life personality and his natural ability to make people smile and laugh. A gifted public speaker and salesman, Bill connected easily with others and left a lasting impression wherever he went.

Bill proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1969 to 1975 and was meritoriously appointed to the rank of Lance Corporal in 1970. Following his military service, he built a successful career in telecommunications, serving as President of Ideacom Network Telecommunications Company.

An avid athlete and lifelong sports enthusiast, Bill was especially passionate about golf. He was a devoted member of Mid-Carolina Country Club, where he enjoyed many friendships and rounds on the course. In 2023 and 2025, Bill and golf partner, Jerry Myers, won the Senior Member-Member Golf Tournament at Mid-Carolina. Forever a Gamecock, he loved watching sports and spending time with his family, particularly his wife and their two beloved dogs, Girlie and Jasper.

Bill was a faithful member of St. Simon & St. Jude Episcopal Church and will be remembered most as a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brothers John A. Gillam, Jr. and David T. Gillam.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 55 years, Patricia O. Gillam; his daughter, Kimberly A. Carpenter; and his granddaughter, Skylar LeAnne Carpenter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to DAV - The Disabled American Veterans.
